Hand-thrown in western Anatolia, Turkey, this large terracotta olive jar was originally used for storing oil during the harvest season. Fired at high temperatures, the surface shows natural blackened glaze and smoke markings where minerals and heat have settled into the clay, creating strong contrast and tonal variation across the vessel.
Now expertly converted in the UK into a table lamp, its generous scale, broad shoulders and weight give it a solid, architectural presence. The combination of raw terracotta and darkened firing marks adds depth and character, making it well-suited to both contemporary and traditional interiors.
